Student a budding botanist

RCS junior Cassandra Delbene recently placed third in the Capital District Garden and Flower Show.

Delbene, the daughter of Jean and John Delbene of Ravena, took third place in the Yellow Monochromatic Arrangement competition in the March 28-20 show, which was conducted at Hudson Valley Community College.

She was part of a team of students from Capital Region Career & Technical School's Floral Design and Botanical Services classes who competed in the show.

Students are from Clifton Park, Glenmont, Halfmoon, Hudson, Niskayuna, and Schenectady also competed.

Taught by Meg Bugler, Floral Design and Botanical Services are two of 40 programs of study offered to high school and adult students at the Capital Region Career & Technical School, which has campuses on Watervliet-Shaker Road in Colonie and on Route 30A in Schoharie. Most high school students attend Career & Tech for a half day and their local high school for the other half. Adult students may study full or part-time.

The school is operated by the Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and enrolls more than 1,300 students from Albany, Schenectady, Schoharie and southern Saratoga counties. Information is available at www.bocescareertech.org.
