Students from Pieter B.
Coeymans, A.W. Becker and the high school took a dip in cool
waters Wednesday as they released trout and studied the
health of the
Onesquethaw and Coeymans creeks in Bethlehem.
Joined by a representative
of the Audubon Society and under the watchful eye of Albany
TV stations, the students released approximately 80 trout
raised since December by AWB students.
They also took water
temperatures, measured the levels of oxygen, algae and
insects in the creeks and performed other studies.
"It's an excellent learning
opportunity,." said AWB teacher Krysia Cording.
Fred
Realbuto of the Audubon society said it was unique pairing
of elementary and high school students, not-for-profits and
businesses to not only provide an educational opportunity,
but also help the community by tracking the health of the
waterways.
