Dear Parents, June 13th, 2008
In Writing this week we celebrated all our hard work and growth this year with our final piece. We published our mysteries complete with cover illustration and “About the Author.” We then took turns getting up in front of the class for our last presentation. Each and every famous author had their bio read aloud as they were introduced for their final reading. Congratulations to all our authors and all they’ve accomplished.
In Reading Workshop we compared and contrasted authors and discussed author’s voice. We examined two classic books My Rotten Red-Headed Older Brother by Patricia Polacco and The Pain and The Great One by Judy Blume. If you grew up with siblings then you simply must check these out of the library. They are fantastic!
In Social Studies we have been trying to keep cool J with our visits to Antarctica. We’ve been reading a book titled Greetings from Antarctica that looks at this frigid continent from the perspective of a scientist who lives there. Have your child describe all that they’ve learned. Today we ventured even closer with the help of a video. Find out what we saw!
In Math, we have officially completed all of our units for the year and are having lots fun reviewing what we’ve learned with M&M Math! With the help of some tasty treats we have been reviewing the skills and concepts we worked so hard on this year. Find out what kinds of activities were involved.
