Mrs.Guntert’s News

October 29th

Here are my plans for this week…

Langauage Arts/Science – Our theme for this week is bats.  Your children will begin this study of bats by posing their own questions and curiosities they have about bats.  I will now begin to introduce five new sight words at a time.  For this week they are: about, out, then, time and two. The list of pencil words (spelling words) are:  of, are, but, all and this.

Coming Soon:  We have begun to the study word families that will help us to spell common short vowel words. For instance, just this past week, we learned many words that have the short /a/ sound.  This week I will continue to introduce new words with this sound.  Soon, I plan to send home spelling lists that will reflect the word pattern we are working on at a particular time.

Writer’s Workshop – This week we will be sharing our “treasures” and creating writing pieces that reflect the significance of the object.

Math – Once again, the students performed well on the math chapter test.  They were able to find many of the ways to make 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.  We have begun chapter 3 in our workbooks.  Our focus is on addition and creating addition number sentences for a variety of sums.

Favorite Animal Day – This Wednesday, October 31st, will be our celebration for Favorite Animal Day!  Students should come to school as their favorite animal.  Students will not be permitted to wear a traditional “Halloween” costume.  If they do, they may be asked to call home for a change of clothes.

Conference Day – Tuesday is an early dismissal day for the children.  They will be dismissed at 12:30.  Some of you have scheduled a parent/teacher conference in the afternoon.  I look forward to seeing you then!
