Week of May 5, 2008
Readers Workshop: We will continue to work in our literature groups this week. New books being read are: The Westing Game, In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, and Civil War on Wednesday.
Writing: We will continue to work on our Memoir Unit this week. Our tentative Writer’s Workshop date is: Thursday, May 15th at 9:30 a.m. Please save the date- however, stay tuned for more details!
Science: We are starting a new unit in Science on the Solar System. We will discuss different moons, what an eclipse is, planets, rotation, and revolution.
Social Studies: In Social Studies this week, the children will finish reading about the Great Depression. We will then work our way through WWII and lead ourselves up to the Civil Rights Movement. We will go to the computer lab and watch an interactive video on the Civil Rights March on Washington.
Math: We are continuing to cover geometry in Math this week. Some things we will do are Playground Geometry, where the kids will measure objects and find the length, width, radius, diameter, perimeter, and so much more! We will use straws and geo boards to make polygons and different triangles like Scalene, Isosceles, and Equilateral. Lots of hands-on-math this week!
Spelling: Words will be introduced on Monday and will go home. The spelling test will be on Friday.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK:
1. We will play BINGO Geometry on Thursday. Children should be studying their Geometry Definitions throughout the week.
2. Pajama Day/Movie will be on Friday this week. The children did a wonderful job of filling the High Five Jar and they voted on a Pajama day with a movie.
3. **Please send in a note if your child is not allowed to watch PG.
