Cuban native talks to Middle School students
A native
of Cuba brought the foreign country to life for seventh
grade Spanish students at RCS Middle School on Friday.
Maria
Gutieerrez spoke to students about life in Cuba - where she
lived for 13 years - and her move to the US and eventually to
Clifton Park.
During her nearly two-hours
talk,
Gutieerrez
answered questions about how life is controlled in the
communist state and what it was like to taste Freedom in the
US, as well as transition from a Spanish-speaking country to
America.
The speech
– which came at a time when Hollywood stars and other
segments of the US society have made Cuba popular and
clothing celebrating its communist revolution fashionable –
concluded a unit in which the RCS students researched life
in Cuba.
