Pennies for miracles

In a season filled with consumerism, RCS’ youngest students are learning how just a little charity can go a long way.

Students at A.W. Becker Elementary School have taken advantage of an opportunity to donate pennies when to the Make a Wish Foundation during school banking.

A recent Friday saw numerous students march up to the plastic jug and donate plastic bags of pennies.

Just how much has been raised is not known yet because the pennies have not been counted, but the effort has filled an extremely large jar and smaller containers.

The pennies will be brought to a counter later this week with the proceeds being sent to the Make A Wish Foundation.

“This year we did it on a small scale, but next year we are going to expand it through the whole school,” said Saltis.
