B.A.C. to
meet again on Monday
The RCS Budget Advisory
Committee (B.A.C.) will
meet for the second time
on Monday, Jan. 28 in
the District Office
Building on Thatcher
Street in Selkirk.
The meeting, which will
begin at 7 p.m., is open
to the public.
The BAC is a group of
residents who will
advise on and guide in
the creation of the
proposed 2008-09 school
year budget.
The overall goal of the
committee is to create a
“sound educational
budget at a responsible
financial level.”
During its first
meeting on January 14,
the committee received
its "charge" from
Tiffany Morris and Daryl
Purinton of Purinton &
Morris, an accounting
firm that is providing
financial and budget
assistance to the
district while it
searches for a new
business official to
lead the RCS Business
Office.
The committee also
reviewed the last three
years of district
expenditures and heard
how RCS put's a proposed
budget together.
Superintendent Vicki
Wright also explained
that the district is
demanding this year more
information and
explanation from
department heads on any
proposed increases in
spending.
The committee also
learned that at least 60
percent of a budget is
people-driven and that
the state budget has a
dramatic impact on RCS
and other schools since
it determines a large
portion of the revenue
for the district.
"Like last year, the
Budget Advisory
Committee will serve a
vital purpose in the
development of a
fiscally sound and
educationally
responsible budget to
put before voters on May
20," said Wright.
