Capturing wind to
teach a lesson
If they could only
find a way to power
school buses this
way.
RCS
High School
technology students
are learning how to
harness wind to
power vehicles as
just the latest
project studying
alternative forms of
energy.
The students – who
recently created
solar cells – are
creating wooden
model size vehicles
that will be powered
by the wind.
The students are
spending this week
utilizing glue,
saws, wood and
related construction
materials to fine
tune their vehicles.
Next week, teacher
Mike Fisher said,
they will be put to
the test on a
12-foot-long course
using a high powered
fan.
Fisher said the
students’ projects
will be graded based
on performance,
design and
aesthetics.
