pennies for patients

The
RCS High School National Honor Society will be gathering
“pennies for patients” as part of the national effort by
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Society members are
encouraging students, faculty, staff and community
members to contribute change and make other donations to
the society starting on March 3 and continuing through
March 20, Honor Society Advisor Stephanie Branley said.
“We will be asking
community members and the students of RCS to please
donate spare change, or any amount possible. Personal
donations are welcome and checks can be made payable to
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,” Branley said.
Labeled collection boxes
will be located at several public locations throughout
the high school and middle school, as well as at school
events.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society is an organization that works every day to give
hope to patients and their families. Thanks to the
outstanding efforts of schools that participated last
year, schools in Upstate New York and Vermont raise more
than $70,000 to support programs for leukemia, lymphoma,
and other blood cancer patients, as well as vital
research to find a cure for blood cancers, Branley said.
“Far too often over the
past few years, the students, faculty, and staff of RCS
have been touched by the effects of leukemia and
lymphoma,” Branley said, citing the reason for RCS’
participation in the event.
