Reynolds
competes in Poetry Out Loud competition
For some, reciting a poem in
front of a crowd while reading it is difficult. RCS junior Jared
Reynolds added a degree of difficulty Thursday when he not only
recited poetry in front of a crowd, but did so from memory.
Reynolds competed in the
regional Poetry Out Loud competition at the Empire State Plaza,
reciting Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and Annabel Lee by
Edgar Allen Poe in front of a crowd of peers and adults.
While he did not advance to the
state competition, teacher Rita Owens said “he did a great job
representing RCS.”
The Poetry
Out Loud contest, which is part of the National Endowment for
the Arts and The Poetry Foundation’s National Poetry Out Loud
Recitation Contest, is designed to improve students’ ability to
perform and speak in front of crowds, as well as to increase
awareness of poetry among youth Owens said.
