Symposium brings laughter, message
In one venue, students were left slack-jawed at the
tricks and heights reached by a pair of "extreme
pogoists."
In another section
of RCS High School, students were learning how to
dress properly to reach new heights on the corporate
ladder.
Both lessons were
part of the first-of-its-kind senior symposium for
members of the RCS Class of 2008.
Developed by the
school’s Professional Studies Group, the symposium
was designed to be an academic pep rally of sorts,
providing students with valuable lessons on
important topics. Local dignitaries and community
volunteers, ranging
from District Attorney David Soares to Board of
Education member Sarah Hafensteiner and high school
teacher and dive master Kyle Kearney, taught
valuable lessons during a series of sessions.
Seminar topics included:
• Film Production
• Money Management
• Car Insurance
• Voter Registration
• Diseases
• Daily Exercise
• Creatures nobody loves
• Personal Banking
• Keys to Improving Self Image
“Schools commonly set aside half a day for sport
rallies, but seldom is a day set aside for an
Academic PEP Rally. That's the idea that this day grew
out of,” said Grades 9/10 Interim Principal Frank
Barone.
'It
was a wonderful event," said Superintendent Vicki
Wright.
Grades 11/12 Principal Hakim Jones praised the
faculty, staff, community and presenters for working
together to put forth a valuable program for the
students.
Local businesses showed their support for the
initiative by donating prizes that were given to
students during the day.
