Pre-k to serve all who met application deadline
Every applicant who met
the Feb. 15 for applying to the RCS pre-kindergarten
program for the coming school year will be placed in the
program.
Assistant Superintendent
for Instruction Diane Albano reported that 68
prekindergarten slot were filled by residents who
applied prior to the deadline. A waiting list for those
who applied after Feb. 15 is now being created.
Its
fantastic that we are able to serve those children whose
parents want them to be a part of the RCS pre-K program
and whose parents met the application deadline, said
Pre-K Parent Liaison Jan Lincoln.
Accepting 68 students for the pre-k program at RCS would
have been unheard just last year, Albano noted. The
district under guidance from a panel of citizens and
the Board of Education proposed expanding the program
this year and received voter support for the initiative
with the passage of the 2007-08 school year budget.
The
district provides half-day pre-k classes at A.W. Becker
and Pieter B. Coeymans elementary schools, providing
students with math and literacy as well as music, art
and social skills.
