RCS
Middle School
celebrates national poetry month
There
is a school by the river
Its goal is a big
endeavor …
To educate and
engage,
To bring out rhymes
for a new age,
Not to curb student
enjoyment;
Rather to elevate
their minds and souls
And to open their
eyes to the written word and its many roles
in a world of games,
crimes and instant polls.
As Spring melts
through the ice
RCS is encouraging a
new vice
One of thinking,
poetry and more
for middle school
students to explore

The RCS Middle
School faculty is celebrating a nearly forgotten art
this month – poetry.
In an effort to
boost student awareness of poetry, the school is
marking National Poetry Month in a number of ways,
including placing “graffiti boards” throughout the
school on which faculty, staff and students are
encouraged to write poetry or verses from poems.
Teachers across all
curriculums are also encouraged to share a favorite
poem with their classes.
"National Poetry Month was established by the
Academy of American Poets as a tool to increase the
attention paid to the art of poetry, as well as
living poets and the history of poetry," said RCS
teacher Darlene Stott.
