Arctic animals bring arts, science to life for RCS
students
A pack of
wild, arctic animals invaded A.W. Becker Elementary School
on Friday to teach students a lesson.
The
“animals” were fifth grade students who have spent weeks
creating paper mache animal masks and they performed skits and
poetry for
students in the third and fourth grade.
With the
assistance of Paul Hurteau, an Arts in Education presenter who
has spent time in northern Canada, the students created
their theatric pieces about arctic animals. Their acts featured
arctic hares, wolves, orca, walrus, caribou, musk ox, foxes, and
polar bears.
The program
is funded through an Arts in Education grant and is
designed to combine lessons on the arts and sciences.
