The RCS Board of Education is expected to approve on Monday a
proposition that would seek voter approval of a bus
purchase and radio system replacement.
The board is also expected to finalize a $41.8 million budget
proposal during the 6 p.m. meeting on Monday in the high
school. Both would go before voters on May 20.
The bus and radio proposition - Proposition 1 on the ballot -
would authorize the district to spend no more than
$477,027 to purchase four new buses and the
district-wide radio system for the district's fleet of
55 buses, as well as maintenance and other vehicles.

Transportation Director
Janice Prior said the bus purchase would allow the
retirement of four older, less fuel efficient buses.
The radio system
replacement, she said, is needed because BOCES is no
longer providing radio transmission service and the
district must now contract with a private provider
to allow bus-to-bus and bus-to-transportation building
radio coverage.
The funding would cover the
cost of that contract, as well as the necessary
equipment purchases and radio programming to allow for
the transition, Technology Director Jeff Clemens said.
