students find money in plastic

Elementary school students are finding money in
plastic – but they aren’t swiping a debit or
credit card.
Rather, the
students – members of the Environmental Club –
are collecting Capri Sun pouches and Dannon and
Stonyfield Farm yogurt containers as part of a
month-long recycling initiative.
Collection bins
have been placed throughout the school to
collect the containers in an effort to encourage
student recycling. An added bonus for the green
effort, said teacher Lorri McCarthy is that for
each container students collect, the school will
collect approximately 3 cents from the
manufacturers.
Parents and
community members can contribute by sending
clean containers into the school with students
or dropping them off at the school.
“The students are
making a conscious effort to collect the
containers and at the same time, raise money for
the Environmental Club,” McCarthy said.
