competes at state music event
An A.W.B.
fifth grade student will compete Friday in the New
York State School Music Association solo competition
in Burnt Hills.
Anthony
McElligott, a trumpet player, is the first 5th
grade student in several years to compete in a
NYSSMA competition, said longtime music teacher Bill
Hoeprich.
McElligott
will play
“Russian Hymn” by Tchaikovsky, arranged by Major
Herman Vincent, for the NYSSMA judges. Additionally,
he will play three selected scales and play by sight
music he has never seen before, Hoeprich said.
The NYSSMA
competition begins today and lasts through Saturday
at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.
McElligott
will join more than 100 middle and high school
students from RCS competing at NYSSMA, said music
teacher Scott Andrews.
