Teachers, staff become students
Roles
were reversed for RCS faculty and staff on Friday as
they become the students during a Superintendent’s
Conference Day.
While
students were enjoying a day off from school,
district faculty and staff took part in a
series of lessons, workshops and discussions.
Workshop topics range from Gang Awareness to Dealing
with Difficult Students to Suicide Prevention.
Other
topics include improving records management, how to
help a student who is a danger to hurting
themselves, testing modifications for students and
the need for a high school alternative education
program.
Experts from the community, other institutions and
law enforcement lead the discussions.
Faculty also conducted grade and department
meetings throughout the day to discuss a variety of
topics. One example is a third grade meeting at
9 a.m. in which faculty discussed possible changes
to the math curriculum. Middle school teachers
also conducted a roundtable discussion in the
afternoon to talk about English language arts
education strategies in all disciplines.
“We
consulted with the various units to see what they
wanted for a conference day and what they believed
would be most beneficial to their members,” said
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Diane
Albano, Ed.D. “As a result of those discussions, we
have a wide variety of topics and information
available that will benefit all of our personnel and
through them, our students.”
