A dozen A.W. Becker
Elementary School ballroom dancing students will compete in
a dance competition in East Greenbush on Sunday.
The fifth grade students - led by
teacher Veronica Mitchell, other faculty and community
volunteers - will show their skills in the Foxtrot, Cha Cha,
Tango, Rumba and Swing dances during the Dance Crazy
Competition at Goff Middle School.
The students have
been practicing their dance steps and moves twice weekly for
several weeks.
The students were
among approximately 32 who took this year in the ballroom
dance program at A.W. Becker. The program, which is in
its second year, is designed to empower students and teach
poise, grace and teamwork.
A.W.B Principal Claudia
Verga said the program has “had a profound effect on RCS
students” just like those in New York City, including
improved poise and grace on
the dance floor and improved
behavior in the classroom.
