Volunteers from SABIC - formerly known as
GE Selkirk - helped to spruce up the gardens and wildlife
classroom area of the Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School
on Thursday.
Despite sporadic rain and overcast skies,
the volunteers worked alongside
faculty and staff, tilling, pulling
weeds, spreading mulch and planting perennials on the
school's grounds.
Students, faculty and staff traditionally
maintain the gardens and wildlife trail at the school, which
provides an outdoor classroom for nearly all of the school's
grade levels. The volunteers from SABIC helped their
efforts in preparing for the spring and summer seasons.
Dozens of perennial plants were donated for the occasion by
faculty, staff and community members.
The SABIC employees' effort continued a longtime tradition
by GE Selkirk workers to support the elementary schools
through volunteers to clean and update the gardens and
nature trails at Pieter B. Coeymans and A.W. Becker
elementary schools.
