The
STAR Intergen program is hosting a breakfast on June 7
for students and the senior citizen volunteers who make
up the program.
The breakfast will run
from
8 a.m.
until 10 a.m. at Applebee’s Restaurant in Glenmont.
The breakfast
will
honor the dozens of senior citizens who volunteer
hundreds of hours each in the classrooms of A.W. Becker
and Pieter B. Coeymans elementary schools.
STAR
--
Seniors Teaching and Reaching Out to Students -- places
elementary students in classrooms to help teachers and
their students in what ever way possible, whether it's
reading to the students, volunteering to serve in grandparent role, teaching living history or serving
some other purpose.
The STAR volunteers will eat
for free on June 7. Others attending the breakfast will
be charged $5; all but $1 of that will be donated back
to the STAR program by Applebee's.
