Board of
Education statement
The
Board of Education announced on Tuesday that it has
concluded its investigation into allegations of health
insurance fraud that were leveled against its Superintendent
of Schools, Ms. Vicki Wright, at a public meeting of the
Board of Education held on August 20, 2007.
“The
Board was quite concerned about allegations made by a former
employee. As a result, the Board of Education called an
emergency meeting on August 23 and immediately convened in
Executive Session to review the materials that were
necessary to reach a determination as to whether or not
malfeasance had occurred,” said Board President Mike
Varney.
“The
Board was pleased to find that there was evidence to rebut
the allegations that had been made and we consider this
matter to be closed,” added Mr. Varney.
Additionally, Mr. Varney announced that the Board of
Education - at its September 10, 2007 meeting - will review
the draft corrective action plan developed by the
Superintendent of Schools in response to the Comptroller’s
Audit Report according to Board President Varney.
“The
Board believes that it is their responsibility to address
the issues in the Audit Report in a timely manner,” he said. |
