With the clock ticking towards the start of the school year, RCS Transportation Director Janice Prior said on Monday she still needs at least five drivers.

Before the school year starts on Sept. 6, the district would like to hire five full-time substitute drivers - the employees would report to work every day and work for at least 6 hours, but would not have a regularly assigned route.

"This is the closest we have come to the start of the year with this many openings still to fill," Prior said.

Head Bus Driver Kevin Williams said RCS pays $11.75 an hour and will provide the necessary training for drivers so that they can earn their CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsements. The district also offers incentives for good driver attendance.
