First day celebration -
complete with a parade - is a first for RCS
Residents are invited to
join the children and teachers and administrators of Pieter
B. Coeymans on RCS’ First Day of School – Thursday, Sept. 6.
A community-wide celebration
is planned to help the children start the school year
right, as well as allow parents to meet other parents and
community members.
“Getting
to know people who have a shared interest in the education
of our children— what better way to spend the First
Day of the school year?,” said Principal Elisabeth Smith.
Events will run from 9 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m. at the Elementary School, located at 66 Church
Rd. in Coeymans.
The
highlight of the day is a 2 p.m. parade in the village. The
parade, which is expected to include community groups, as
well as students and faculty, will march from PBC to
North
Clement to Aluise Drive to Van Hoesen Street. All families
and community members are invited to join us in the
parade.
Afterwards, RCS will be
serving ice cream provided by Stewart Shops.
Throughout
the day, students will take part in games and activities
while parents will have an opportunity to interact with
faculty staff and students. Additionally, performances by
the popular children’s band the Zucchini Brothers are
scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
A luncheon
is scheduled for 11 a.m. for all parents in attendance.
“We
really want to form a relationship not only between the
parents and community and the school, but our local
businesses,” Ms. Smith said. |
