Middle School students give a "shout out"
Several Middle School students gave a “shout out” to Mexican independence on Friday as they took part in a Grito contest.
Students in Charlie Silberman’s Spanish class took part in a Grito Contest to commemorate Mexican Independence Day on Sunday.
The Grito Contest recalls the historic cry for independence in Mexico on September 16, 1810.
During the contest, the students shouted phrases (gritos) that were originally spoken by Padre Hidalgo in 1810. The students were judged by their peers based on the quality of their shout.
Silberman also judged each participant based on the accuracy of their Spanish.
