More parents turning to e-mail for RCS school news

August and September have seen the most new registrations for RCS’ first-of-its-kind electronic e-news service since the email newsletter launched in 2003.

Superintendent Vicki Wright said this week that the number of subscribers to the e-news service has topped 600 following a steady influx of new subscribers over the past two months.

RCS Today is a weekly e-news letter sent to parents and residents of the school district. It also provide near instantaneous notification to subscribers of emergency school closings of the district. RCS e-new was the first electronic school newsletter in the Capital Region and upper-Hudson Valley.

Created in December 2003 with less than 100 subscribers, the RCS Today subscription base has steadily increased through word-of-mouth, news releases and in-school promotion over the last four years.

The e-news serves as more than a news source for the district, it also provides:

  • Almost instant contact with parents when an emergency occurs or  emergency notices need to be sent out

  • A means to remind parents of important dates, like the upcoming October 9 EXCEL vote.
