First Day Celebration to feature community parade, singers and more

Community members, school administrators, faculty, staff and students will take part in the first-ever First Day of School celebration Sept. 6 in Coeymans.

Festivities will include a community luncheon sponsored by local businesses.

Events will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Elementary School, located at 66 Church Rd. in Coeymans.

The highlight of the day is a 2 p.m. parade in the village of Ravena. The parade, which is expected to include community groups, as well as students and faculty, will march from PBC to North Clement to Aluise Drive to Van Hoesen Street.  All families and community members are invited to join us in the parade.

Afterwards, RCS will be serving ice cream provided by Stewart Shops.

Throughout the day, students will take part in games and activities while parents will have an opportunity to interact with faculty staff and students. Additionally, performances by the popular children’s band the Zucchini Brothers are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

A luncheon is scheduled for 11 a.m. for all parents in attendance.

“We really want to form a relationship not only between the parents and community and the school, but our local businesses,” Ms. Smith said.
