Superintendent search
The search for an interim
superintendent is underway and
the board is looking to setup
interviews with potential
candidates as soon as possible,
board Vice President Cindi
Elliott said.
Elliott reported that the board
is looking towards an interim
superintendent who is
experienced in the role and has
a "business orientation" to
compliment the "strong"
instructional skills of
Assistant Superintendent Diane
Albano, Ed.D.
The vice president said the
board has taken into
consideration feedback on the
process from a number of
bargaining units within the
district and has gathered the
names of potential candidates
from Capital Region BOCES and
the district's law firm.
"We are attempting to get
interviews lined up as soon as
possible," Elliott said.
Senior Symposium
T
eacher
Sue Karmo and interim grades
9/10 principal Frank Barone
reported on the success of the
first ever senior symposium.
Developed by the
schools Professional Studies
Group, the late-March symposium
was designed to be an academic
pep rally of sorts, providing
students with valuable lessons
on important topics. Twenty
local dignitaries and community
volunteers, ranging from
District Attorney David Soares
to Board of Education member
Sarah Hafensteiner and high
school teacher and dive master
Kyle Kearney, taught valuable
lessons during a series of
sessions. Seminar topics
included:
"Because of them we were
able to offer workshops
consisting of a variety
of topics that
introduced the students
to new experiences and
information that we hope
will be useful for them
in the near future."
Karmo said.
"Based on the written
evaluations from the
seniors and the
presenters and the
direct feedback from
those participating or
observing the day it was
an overwhelming
success," she said.
"Seniors overwhelmingly
thought this should be
offered again and stated
that they found it
worthwhile and fun.
They liked having
something special for
them."
A `quest' for audit
control
The Board of Education approved
a contract with Questar III -
which is the BOCES for
Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene
counties, to provide internal
audit controls for the district
during the coming school year.
The audit function -which is
required by the state - is
currently being performed by a
representative of Capital Region
BOCES. The district will pay for
the contract on a fee schedule
based upon the work performed.
