Dress
Code Information For
Parents
There is a direct correlation between how
students dress for school and their behavior and as a result,
RCS this year is focusing on ensuring that students are dressed
respectfully when entering the classrooms of the district’s four
schools.
Please take a few minutes to review the school’s
dress code policy, which is stated below, and please ensure that
your student(s) adhere to the policy.
The Dress Code
The Board of
Education feels that it is the family’s and school’s
responsibility to teach good manners, proper dress, cleanliness,
and moral habits as well as academic skills and knowledge. In
view of this, it shall be the responsibility of the building
Principals to ensure that students under their charge, maintain
an appearance which conforms reasonably to that of the student
body in general and adhere to the following.
All students are expected to give
proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress
appropriately for school and school functions. Students and
their parents have the primary responsibility for acceptable
student dress and appearance.
Teachers and all other
District personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable
student dress and help students develop an understanding of
appropriate appearance in the school setting. A student’s dress,
grooming and appearance, (including
hair style/color,) jewelry, make-up and nails, shall:

Be safe, appropriate and not
disrupt or interfere with the education process.

Recognize
that extremely brief
garments such as tube tops, net tops, halter-tops, spaghetti
straps, plunging necklines (front and/or back), open backs
and open shoulders, see-through garments (tops and bottoms),
and short shorts/skirts above mid-thigh are not
appropriate. Midriff area must be covered. Shoulder straps
should be at least two to three inches wide.

Ensure
that underwear is completely
covered with outer clothing.

Include footwear at all
times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be
allowed.

Not include the wearing of
hats in the building except for a medical or
religious purpose. Any head gear must be removed upon
entering and is to be put away. It is not to be seen again
until the student has exited the building.

Not include items that are
vulgar, obscene, libelous or denigrate others on account of
race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender,
sexual orientation or disability.

Not promote and/or
endorse the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs and/or
encourage other illegal or violent activities.

Not include the wearing of
vests and outerwear.

In
addition, please note
that wallet/pocket chains
are not allowed.

Students who violate
the Student Dress Code shall be referred to the Dean of
Students/Principal and will be required to modify their
appearance by covering or removing the offending item and, if
necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item.
Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject to discipline,
up to and including in-school suspension for the day.
Any student who repeatedly fails to
comply with the Dress Code shall be subject to further
discipline, up to and including out of school suspension.
