Board of Education Profile: John Bonafide, president
John Bonafide
is serving his second term on the Board of Education. He is
a
Coordinator of Preservation Services
for the NYS
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. John
graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelor's of Art degree
and a Master's in History.
He and his wife Anna Marie live on McConnell Avenue in
Ravena. They have three children: Jason, RCS Class of 2003;
Justin (deceased); and Lucy (age 7).
An active member in the community John led the effort to
save the historic former Coeymans High School and to create
the Civill Senior Citizens Apartments. He has recently
established the Coeymans Landing Heritage Fund and has
secured nearly $250,000 for the Historic Preservation,
Community Re-development and Homesteading program in the
hamlet of Coeymans.
John has served as the Chairperson of the Town of Coeymans
Ethics Committee, Chairperson of the Ravena Zoning Board of
Appeals, President of the Civill Senior Apartment Board,
President of St. Patrick's Parish Council, Trustee with the
Greene County Historical Society, as the New Baltimore Town
Historian, and as the Cub-Master and Treasurer Cub Scout
Pack 67. He has also held positions on the Ravena Main
Street Revitalization Committee and the Ravena Planning
Board. He has served on the RCS High School
Principal Search Committee and the RCS Budget Advisory
Panel. He has also developed and teaches a graduate-level
college course in Historic Preservation at SUNY Albany.
His term expires June 30, 2008.
