► What's the
status of the budget now?
The Board of Education approved a final version of the
$41,898,477 budget proposal during a April 21 meeting. Residents can attend a
public hearing on the budget proposal on May 12 at 7p.m. in the
high school library media center.
The budget would increase spending by 2.17 percent and the tax
levy by 2.64 percent. Both represent the lowest increases in the
last five years.
Additionally, the budget proposal is significantly – at least
$320,000 – less than could result from a contingency budget.
The budget was crafted after months of work by the Board of
Education, administration and Budget Advisory Committee, which
consisted of residents, faculty and staff.

What is the
Budget Advisory Committee's role?
The
overall goal of the committee was to advise on, and guide in,
the creation of a “sound educational budget at a responsible
financial level.” The
committee, which consists of
residents, local governmental leaders, faculty, staff and
parents, conducted meetings on a weekly basis (typically).
During a Board of
Education workshop, the B.A.C. made several recommendations
that were eventually incorporated into the budget.
