Students are to place
jackets and coats in their lockers at the beginning of
the school day. Brief garments are prohibited. These
include, but are limited to tube tops, net tops, halter
tops, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (front or
back), see through garments, short shorts/skirts/skorts.
Pajamas and other loungewear are also prohibited.
Underwear should be completely covered with outer
clothing. Pants/slacks/jeans with any writing on the
back are also prohibited. Hats, bandanas, do-rags, and
sunglasses are not permitted to be worn in the Middle
School.
Outerwear is not to be
worn to classes. Students will have time at the end of
the last period to get these items from their lockers in
time to get on the bus to go home. Wallet chains are
prohibited. Clothing that promotes or advertises
tobacco, alcohol, and drug products, or contains
sexually suggestive content is prohibited as well.
If a student comes to school dressed I inappropriate
attire, he/she will not be allowed in class without
first changing into appropriate clothing. The dress
code may also be found in the student handbook.
All of
our students have recently completed the New York State
Math Assessment and our mathematics department has been
busy scoring the tests. Students in grade 8 are
scheduled to take the New York Assessments in Science
and Social Studies in May and June, respectively.
The
Science Olympiad Regional Competition was held at the
RCS Middle School. Congratulations to Ms. Fisk and her
team for scheduling and running the event. Our team
finished in third place in this year’s competition and
will go on to compete at states.
Our
band and chorus students gave wonderful performances
through out the month of March. Students and instructors
prepared for the Music in our Schools month. Their
dedication and hard work was evident. Please remember
that the spring concert will be May 20th.
Pasta for Poole was held
at the Knights of Columbus on Saturday March 29, 2008.
Adam McCoy, a seventh grade student orchestrated the
event. He spent many hours coordinating a fantastic
evening. We would like to thank Adam for making this
possible.
We have
many students participating in our modified athletics.
Ms. Stockman is coaching softball, Mr. Hartsorne is
coaching baseball and Mrs. Baker is coaching track.
Final
exams are being scheduled for June. The Language
Proficiency Exam for eighth graders will be held June
23; the Math 9 regents will be given on June 17, the
Earth Science regents will be given on June 20. More
information will be disseminated as our end of the year
calendar is finalized.
These
are just a few highlights of the many exciting things of
the many exciting things happening in our Middle School.
