STARS Program Receives Stewart's Grant

(April 11, 2012) STARS Intergen Inc., a Glenmont nonprofit agency and RCS collaborative partner, has received a $750 grant from Stewart’s 2011-12 Holiday Match Program. The monies will be used to help support some of the activities of Star Helpers, an intergenerational mentoring program that brings RCS middle and high school students to the Van Allen Senior Apartments in Glenmont to visit with senior residents.

The Star Helpers Program has grown this year with 21 to 25 students visiting the senior apartment complex twice a month. The program was the subject of an Albany Times Union article in March [Read Article].

STARS executive director Karen Harmon said, “The Stewart’s contribution is greatly appreciated and helps us purchase healthy snacks and craft materials for the STAR Helpers Program. It also makes it possible for us to provide an end-of-year celebration for the students and their senior mentors on a Dutch Apple Cruise, which is scheduled for May 15. We would not be able to do that without the generous support of the Stewart’s Holiday Match.”
