RCS music students selected to all-state conference

(11/5/14) The RCS High School Music Department is pleased to announce that junior James “Jake” Wamsley has been selected to participate in this year’s New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference which is being held from December 4-7 in Rochester, NY.  Also selected as an alternate was junior Emmalyn Knapp.

Selection to this high level conference is based on the student’s history of NYSSMA solo scores.  Students must perform a level 6 All-State solo in order to be considered for the All-State Conference.  Wamsley, a Bass 2 voice, scored 99 on his All-State solo last Spring.

Selected to the All-State Mixed Chorus, Wamsley will be joining hundreds of musicians from all across New York State for rehearsals and concerts which will feature eight different All-State groups.  The All-State Mixed Chorus will begin three days of rehearsals on Thursday afternoon, December 4th.  They will be featured in Part III of a two day, three part concert series on Sunday, December 7th at 10 a.m. in the beautiful Eastman Theatre.

There are eight NYSSMA All-State performing groups.  In addition to the Mixed Chorus, the All-State Conference Concert series will feature the Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Ensembles, Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Women’s Chorus, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra.

Selected as an alternate, junior vocalist Emmalyn Knapp achieved a perfect solo score of 100.  She will remain on the list of alternates and may be asked to participate in the event of a cancellation or need to fill an additional vocal part.   There is an extremely high level of competition within the soprano voices throughout the state.  Since Knapp and many other students achieved a perfect score of 100, additional criteria from the adjudicator’s solo evaluation sheets were needed to assist with the selection of the women’s vocal groups.
