Community
invited to
"Budget
Night" on
Feb. 23
RCS and the Board of Education would like
to invite the community to "Budget Night,"
a town hall-style meeting, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 7-9
p.m. in the high school cafeteria. As the district faces
a $1.1 million reduction in operational aid under the
Governor's proposed budget, Superintendent Daniel A.
Teplesky, Business Administrator Lyn Derway, both new to
the district this year, and Board of Education President
Scott Hughes, will provide a brief presentation of the
district’s financial picture and budget planning
process. Small group discussions will give attendees an
opportunity to share what they value most in the
educational setting at RCS. We invite you to attend and
be part of these very important discussions.
Spring Continuing Education
information is now available
Register in person on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 6:30-8 p.m. in
the Aquatics Center
Whether you're looking

reso

liability and collision insurance, RCS has something for you.
Information for
Continuing Education classes for the spring semester is now available on the RCS Web site. A link to the complete brochure in PDF format can be found on the Continuing Education page, or by

Watch board meetings
"live"
from your home
Beginning in January 2010, the district began using
streaming video to give residents another avenue to
follow the board's discussions and decisions. All RCS board meetings can be watched via
this direct link or through the
Board of Education's Web page. Can't watch "live?"
Videos of board meetings are archived and can also be
found on the
Board of Education's Web page.

RCS staff
get ready to
cheer on
family
members
competing in
Olympics

When
Erin Hamlin and
Louie Vito compete in the Winter Games in Vancouver
this month, RCS' Doug Porter and Paula Cushman will be
cheering them on! Porter is the district's food service
director and uncle of Hamlin. Cushman teaches math at
the high school and is aunt to Vito.
Hamlin,
of Remsen, NY, will make her first run in the women's singles luge competition on February 15.
She became the first American woman to win the title of
World Champion when she disrupted Germany's
domination of women's luge by winning gold at the 2009
World Cha
mpionships
in Lake Placid. This will be her
second Olympic appearance.
Cushman
will be there in person to cheer on Vito as he competes
in the men's halfpipe snowboarding competition on Feb.
17.
Best
wishes to both and of course, GO USA!
