On April 30th, students from the University in
the High School Program in Spanish 4 and French
4 and 5 visited A.W. Becker and Pieter B.
Coeymans elementary schools to share the
children’s stories they had written in Spanish
and French with the students in first and second
grades.
The high school students wrote and illustrated
myths explaining how something came to be. They
read these myths in Spanish or French,
translated them into English, and then taught
the elementary students how to say some of the
relevant words in the story, and their names, in
Spanish or French.
The event gave the older students a chance to
showcase their hard work and talents, and it
gave the younger students some exposure to
languages other than English. The high school
students are taught by Sharon Muth (Spanish) and
Carolyn Filson (French).
