During an evening focused on math, more than 50 A.W. Becker Elementary School families came together to participate in Math Family Fun Night, Jan. 21. The event featured real-world and problem-based activities and games for each grade level, kindergarten through fifth grade.
Students and families tested their skills in a variety of hands-on activity stations, such as “fishing” in a pool for numbers; measuring/estimating height with paper clips; and playing adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing games and games with fractions – all skills students are learning as part of the Common Core curriculum.
“Anytime we can increase parent involvement, we have the opportunity to promote learning at school,” said math curriculum content specialist Debra Neubart. “This was a fun night for families, which allowed them to foster that relationship and create an excitement for learning math.”
