The purpose of this message is to confirm that our school district will reopen for in-person learning on Monday, February 22.
We recognize that the COVID-19 infection rate has continued to decrease in our area in recent weeks and the rate of virus transmission in schools continues to be low. Completing the daily health attestation for your child(ren) is an essential component to RCS remaining open.
Important Travel Advisory: As we return from February recess, the RCS District would like to remind those families that have traveled over February recess to be accurate when filling out your student(s) daily attestation. Students and families that have travelled outside of New York State must follow all travel advisories. Your child(ren) should not return to school until all travel requirements have been completed. Please do not place our staff and students in danger by violating this expectation.
We will continue in-person instruction unless there are staffing shortages due to illness or quarantine or evidence of broader virus transmission in our school. In addition, completely remote learning options continue to be available to all families and can be accessed by contacting your child’s school counselor.
At school, all of our health and safety precautions remain fully in effect. They include mask wearing, social distancing, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, and filling out the daily health attestation form.
Based on our review of the COVID-19 quarantine status for building staff and members this week, our district is planning the following statuses:
A.W. Becker Elementary will continue with in-person instruction
Pieter B. Elementary will continue with in-person instruction
Grades 5 and 6 will continue with in-person instruction
Self-Contained Students with Disabilities will continue with in-person instruction
Grades 7-12 will continue with in-person instruction
Grades 7-12 students should follow their regular daily schedule beginning at 7:30 am. The schedule for Monday, February 22, will be Yellow 2a day at the HS and Yellow B1 day at the MS.
As a reminder, school schedules may be found here: full schedule available here.
We have been notifying families immediately when we receive information that may lead to a building or our district to close. This information is sometimes shared days ahead of time and sometimes we only have hours to notify you of a closure. We are doing our absolute best to get this information to you as soon as possible.
We thank you for your patience as we seek to keep our students, staff and community safe during this time. Our goal is to provide in-person instruction to all students and we will continue to think creatively about how to accomplish this task.
