District Update: Distancing Guidelines and End of Year Celebrations/Gatherings

Dear RCS Families,

Over the past two weeks there have been a few updates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), New York State and Albany County related to distancing guidelines in schools and end of year celebrations/gatherings. We wanted to provide you with some information about these guidelines and the possible effects on our RCS program.

Social Distance Guidelines - Updated guidance for K-12

Recently, the CDC and New York State shared guidance updating K–12 school procedures to reflect the latest science on physical distance between students, suggesting that 3’ would be sufficient in classrooms under certain conditions. It is important to note that Albany County (and virtually every county in NYS) is currently considered to be a high-risk transmission zone. This limits what can be done with any changes in distancing at the middle and high school level. Any changes to distancing at any grade level will require community feedback and publicly posted updates to the district reopening plan. Also, all scenarios still require the wearing of masks and a suggested 6' between adults and children. RCS will be considering if/how these updated distancing guidelines may affect our program between now and the conclusion of the year.  Click these links to learn more about the updated New York State and CDC guidelines.

End of Year Celebrations & Gatherings

On April 12, the New York State Department of Health updated their current guidelines as it applies to end of academic year celebrations/gatherings in school communities. The guidelines provided have been adjusted to continue New York state’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. Effective June 1, 2021, end of academic year social gatherings organized by educational institutions (e.g., proms and graduations) may occur, in accordance with this strict guidance. These guidelines currently include limitations such as all attendees providing proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry.  Also, attendance will be limited to between 10%-33% for most available venues. Please note that the guidance can be adjusted as the status of COVID-19 changes in our communities. We are currently in the planning stages for our end of year events and are hopeful that we will be able to provide a reasonably normal season of celebrating the accomplishments of our students.  We will continue to provide you with updates as information becomes available.
