As per the directive of the New York State Department of Health, all NYS schools must offer screening (Surveillance) testing for unvaccinated students on a weekly basis in geographic areas identified by the CDC as having moderate, substantial, or high transmission rates. The RCS school district also plans to offer diagnostic testing in school for students who are displaying symptoms. We will send a notice to families when testing begins which will be in mid to late October.
In preparation for testing to begin, here is the RCS COVID-19 Student Testing Consent Form. Parent or guardian consent for minors will be required for this testing to occur. This testing model is not invasive, it is a simple cheek swab, and will be free for any student. With an estimated 24-48 hour turnaround for results, we hope to get students back to school quicker than when testing occurs at independent health facilities. More information about the testing model can be found on the consent form here.
The consent form will be coming home via backpack mail tomorrow, Friday, October 8, or you can print it here. The form can be returned to your student’s teacher or main office. We sincerely hope that you complete and return this form to your child’s school to allow for testing. If you have any questions, you can contact your student’s nurse.
