Teachers Brandon Herwick and Elyse Loughlin hosted the Homespun Community Dance Band to work with students during their community dance unit.

Member of the folk group first introduced students to the history of folk dance and then began to play each instrument one at a time.

“I have another instrument right here,” member George said as he pointed to his feet. “It’s the shoes on my feet.” Tapping away, he explained that shoes have always been a way to create your own beat.

Students listened, learned then danced collaboratively – all in preparation for a Community Dance where students were encouraged to bring their families.

“We had a good turnout and many laughs were had by all,” Herwick said. “We would like to host more after school events like this where we can come together and exercise as a community.”
