High School Science Olympiad team competes at regionals

Saturday, Feb. 2 was a big day for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School Science Olympiad team. The team participated in the Capital Region Science Olympiad Regionals, competing against nearly 20 teams.

RCS students earned medals in seven events and the team placed tenth overall.

“Congratulations to the entire team for excellent work against very tough competition,” head coach Matthew Miller said.

RCS medal winners include:

  • 3rd Place – Experimental Design – Laya Mathai, Sarah Eckl and Gillian Bartlett
  • 3rd Place – Fossils – Diya Mathai and Claire Pike
  • 6th Place – Geologic Mapping – Chris Miller and Shane Racey
  • 6th Place – Boomilever – Braden Pagan
  • 6th Place – Parasitology – George White
  • 6th Place – Protein Modeling – Allison Clark and Victoria Vadney
  • 6th Place – Water Quality – George White and Diya Mathai
