A.W. Becker Elementary third, fourth and fifth grade students recently learned about the importance of one of the RCS district’s core values: Empathy. As part of that learning process, A.W. Becker Elementary welcomed FOX 23’s John Gray to read from his inspiring book Keller’s Heart.

The book is the perfect tool for spreading the important message of being kind to others, especially those who are different from us, and encourages students to have empathy.  Being empathetic not only supports our District’s values, but also is strongly tied into the NYS SEL (Social Emotional Learning) goals.

The message written on the first page of the book really says it all, “For any child who has ever felt different, alone, or faced special challenges.  You are unique.  You are beautiful.  You are loved.”

We appreciate Mr. Gray for taking the time to share his story and interact with students.

Thank you.
