Middle School Science Olympiad team brings home the bronze

In a strong showing at the Capital District Science Olympiad regional competition on March 4, the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Middle School team placed third overall with a total of nine individual medals in the competition.

RCS students between grades 6 and 9 practiced twice a week since October in preparation for more than 20 team and individual events. Topics ranged from anatomy and ecology to optics and wind power.

RCS student medals:

  • 3rd place in Bottle Rocket: Lucas Long
  • 2nd place in Crime Busters: Gillian Bartlett and Leah White
  • 2nd place in Disease Detectives: Peyton Vanderheyden and Liam Hallisey
  • 2nd place in Ecology: Leah White and Ashley Cross
  • 2nd place Food science: Leah White and George White
  • 1st place in Microbe Mission: George White and Aidan White
  • 3rd place in Optics: Lindsey Powell and Nathaniel Loomis
  • 3rd place in Reach for the Stars: Lindsey Powell and Claire Pike
