Middle school student chosen for competitive science program

A second Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk student, in as many years, has been chosen to participate in the Rising Star internship program at the Dudley Observatory in Schenectady. After a competitive application process, soon-to-be eighth-grader, Jenna Grogan, was selected to the program that runs August 2018 through April 2019.

“It is a competitive program and they usually do not accept a student his or her first time applying,” RCS Middle School Science Teacher Jennifer Fisk-Jaskolka said.

During the exclusive program, selected students, grades six through 10, and teachers chosen for the program will be learning how to navigate the night sky, operate a telescope and better understand the science related to the stars, nebulae and galaxies. When Grogram and the other interns fulfill the program requirements, they will become ambassadors and receive a telescope from the Dudley Observatory.
