The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk CSD held its 64th commencement ceremony on the grounds of the RCS High School on Saturday, June 27. Parents and caregivers, local community members, friends and students attended the first-of-its-kind drive-through graduation ceremony. In a year of firsts, this year’s commencement was conducted using social distancing guidelines based on directives from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). While different, it was a great way to continue celebrating our seniors as they closed an important chapter in their lives.
With their families vehicles decorated and the students looking to celebrate the conclusion of their high school accomplishments, the event went off successfully and the celebration weekend commenced. RCS students were able to see each other, some for the first time since schools were closed in March due to the onset of COVID-19. The Class of 2020 received large applauses from family and friends in attendance, as they were walking the stage to receive their diplomas.
Stories were shared and laughter and cheer was had among the graduating class. The Class of 2020 will be known for their resilience, understanding and hard work in achieving their goals towards graduation. RCS staff members assisted and showed their pride for their students and joined in this unique send off for the Class of 2020.
The Class of 2020 demonstrated its resilience over the 2019-20 school year and now enter the next phase of their young and amazing lives. They have taught us, as much as we’ve taught them over the years. The RCS community is proud of this year’s graduates and all that they have accomplished, and all that they have yet to become.
In addition to the drive-through commencement, the RCS District will cap the graduation weekend with a premiere of its virtual graduation video which features speeches from the valedictorian and salutatorian, district leaders, and much more to celebrate this year’s graduating class. That event will be held at the Jericho Drive-In in Glenmont, NY on Sunday, June 28. The gates will open to continue the celebration at 8 p.m., tickets required.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
