RCS celebrates the graduates of 2020

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of the RCS Class of 2020,

We are going to make history!

We hope this letter finds you and your families healthy and well.  As most of us are doing in our personal lives, we are trying to find the bright spots, change the way we look at things, and reimagine how we do things.  This has forced us to be resilient and creative in our planning and thought process to celebrate the Class of 2020.

Graduation is quickly approaching, but certainly not graduation as we would have expected. We are so excited to share this achievement with our students and their families and have been working diligently to develop a plan which will allow us to bring you together to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our students.  In doing so, we are required to follow the Governor’s Executive Orders and those of the Albany County Department of Health in order to protect the health and safety of our students, families, faculty, and community. In accordance with those precautionary measures, the RCS School District will follow those requirements as the Governor’s Executive Order requires.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Golden Lamb Productions, a professional videographer, to produce a live streaming presentation for our commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020.

Our live streamed production will feature many of the components of a traditional graduation ceremony, including each student walking across the RCS High School auditorium stage to receive their diploma.  In adherence with the Governor’s Executive Order, allowing gatherings of 10 people or less, each student will be given an appointment to come to school in their cap and gown, with a maximum of four family members in attendance, have their pictures taken by a professional photographer, and then be video recorded walking across the stage to receive their diploma with their four family members present.

This will be videotaped and put together, along with some other graduation traditions, including messages from the Valedictorian and Salutatorian into a video to be premiered at Jericho Drive-in on Sunday, June 28th at 9pm, and be livestreamed at the same time.  The video will also be shared on our webpage after the graduation.

Next week, each student will be receiving a letter and an email with their scheduled date and time to walk across the stage. The two dates for recording will be Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3 starting at 4:30 p.m.  We have scheduled them in the evening to accommodate families.

Please remember, you will be receiving more details via email including your scheduled “walk” time.   We will also keep you up to date should anything need to change.

Sending positive thoughts and wishes to you and your families.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Warm Regards,

Dr. Lisa Patierne
