Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk schools take pride in our robust art, music and drama programs that afford students opportunities to explore the arts in and beyond the classroom.
RCS offers a comprehensive art program for students K-12. Instructional activities include two and three dimensional projects in a wide variety of media such as clay, paint, textiles, charcoal, pastels, ink, basic stained glass, wood and found objects. Using an interdisciplinary approach, art projects also explore history and cultural mores. Students’ art work is regularly displayed at the school and in numerous public exhibitions including:
- Annual BOCES Art Show
- Columbia-Greene Community College Juried Art Exhibit
- Annual display at BOE/Village offices
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Show at Siena College
- High school exhibit
- National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame’s Annual Exhibit
Students interested in music have many outlets at RCS, from classroom music curriculum to active participation in band, chorus and award-winning ensembles.
Classroom opportunities for students include general music classes and two electives, music theory and music history. Musicians also have the option to participate in numerous concerts, All-County Festivals and extra-curricular ensembles such as jazz ensemble and select chorus.
Each year the drama club puts on a cabaret in the Fall and a musical in the Spring giving students an opportunity to develop and improve their performing skills.
