RCS wrestling team heads to Section 2 Tournament as Colonial Council champion

Wrestling team posing for photo with championship awardEarning the 2015-16 Colonial Council championship was not enough for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School wrestling team. It also set a new school record with 11 wrestlers qualifying for the Section 2 Tournament Feb. 13-14 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Their season has been marked by multiple tournament titles, including at the Section 2 Class CC Tournament Feb. 6, when RCS had 12 wrestlers place in their weight classes, including, 11 who received double-digit scores. The team produced three champions, Naphtali Steward, Dave Ingraham and Keith Houghtaling. Brandon Mogul, Ryan Allman and Dakota Delisle finished in second; Luke Davison, Juan Estrada and Marlon Laing took third place. Austin Delisle and Nick Persico were fourth-place finishers while Logan O’Brien placed sixth.

Coach Justin Schipano expressed his excitement for the team’s success congratulating the student-athletes on their hard work so far this season. He also recognized that the work is not yet done, and fan support is critical to the team’s future success. He urged RCS fans, “Please come out and support your sectional champions as they move on to qualify for states. We are so proud of this team.”
